One of the biggest parts of my thesis project is the production of the AM1 gauge cluster. Made from handmade brass, laser etched acrylic and lots of 3d printed parts. It was important for the ethos of the AM1 to have an 'Analog' tachometer and speedo. In sport mode, infinity mirror led rings inside each gauge chase the rpms, giving it a sense of depth and radiance. To try and match that depth and eliminate any screen bezel, I'm reflecting the digital readout in the center off of a gloss black surface.

So I haven't posted here in a while... grad school has kept me busy! As I'm coming up on graduation, I want to start sharing what I've been working on, starting with this- the body of my original car design, currently dubbed the 'AM1'. My thesis involves following through on the design of this car including an in-depth 3d model including most technical details, producing near-production functional prototypes of the steering wheel, gauge cluster, and shifter, and culminating in a driveable simulator using those parts and the car digitally simulated in Assetto Corsa.

Visitors who come to the @sunynewpaltz @ddf_npz thesis exhibition on May 3rd will be able to hop on the simulator and drive this car virtually!

I just finished up this dragon-inspired Corkscrew

I just finished up this dragon-inspired Corkscrew as part of my casting class with @newpaltzmetal. The two handle halves are sand-casted bronze, with a layered copper and stainless steel center section, and stainless steel head and blade. As an homage to my family's involvement in the food and beverage industry, which instilled in me the passion and attention to detail that I try to bring to my own work.

So I realized that I forgot to post this picture of all the parts I gathered to perform the manual transmission swap on the E28. The @garagistic chassis mount shifter and poly bushings give it those race car feels (with the added benefit of not needing to weld in the rear shifter mount) while @fcpeuro is my go-to source for keeping everything fresh and OEM+. Also featuring a low-mileage 3.73 limited slip differential and reinforced pedal box.

Thought I would share some of the non-automotive work I did in 2020. I got involved with the Metals program at New Paltz and got the chance to start exploring the finer elements and techniques of this medium. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to taking more classes and seeing where this goes! Thank you @lynnbatch @ameliatoelke and @the.silver.ren for making me an honorary Metals student!

1) Quartz crystal with brass, copper, PLA. Color changing LEDs powered by an Adafruit ItsyBitsy and Li-ion battery. The crystal illuminates in response to touch via capacitance and reacts to its environment by changing color via phototransistors.
